The development of oedema after the introduction of some psychotropic drugs has been previously reported with a range of agents. One drug that has been implicated is the second generation antipsychotic agent, olanzapine. A recently published case report has described a woman who developed generalised oedema after treatment with a product that contains a combination of olanzapine and fluoxetine. The issue resolved after discontinuation of the implicated agent. Clinicians need to be aware of this uncommon but important adverse effect of olanzapine. View the case report online here.
