With generic competition now in the frame for the originator brand of aripiprazole in the USA, manufacturers have boldly headed where no standard pharmaceutical products have ventured before, launching a drug-device pairing that will enable clinicians to monitor medication ingestion, amongst other things. Interestingly, news sources list the current monthly cost of “generic” aripiprazole at approximately $US700 per month (approximately $A960), meaning that the the PBS-subsidized price of $A211 compares more than favourably.
