Pharmacoepidemiological evidence suggests that the use of some commonly prescribed medicines (and in some cases, medications available without a prescription) is associated with depression. The prevalence of depression was 5% for people not taking drugs implicated as a cause of depression in the approved product information, 7% for those taking one of these agents, and up to 15% for those taking three or more.
