Researchers have examined the impact of the services provided by pharmacists in the aged care setting. 52 studies addressing services provided for nearly 31,000 residents were included. Of note, pharmacist services reduced the mean number of falls (‐0.50; 95%CI: ‐0.79 to ‐0.21) among residents. Given the serious morbidity and increased short-term mortality observed amongst older people who fall, this aspect of the findings provides compelling evidence to suggest that pharmacists should form an integral part of clinical teams working to protect the health of people living in the residential care setting.
