Recent research has confirmed that medication-related problems remain as a serious contributor to morbidity and mortality in the UK. A report reveals that the estimated annual death toll associated with preventable ADRs stands at over 700 p.a. (comparable to 1710 deaths from road traffic accidents in the UK in 2017), and that ADRs may contribute to up to 22,000 deaths each year. The same report found that some 237 million medication errors occur in the UK each year, with one in four of these causing harm to patients. The report also estimates that the cost associated with these issues approaches £100 each year.
